DDoS Analysis report for April 2024

Source: Vercara
Release Date: April 2024

Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks continue to pose a significant threat to organizations. April 2024 saw a staggering increase of 21% of DDoS attacks vs March 2024, with 7,610 total attacks for the month, with the largest attack measured at 635.30 Gbps.

April saw a daily average of 253 DDoS attacks but saw sharp increases on April 12th and 13th with spikes of 589% and 250% above average, likely due to increased hacktivist activities in response to geopolitical events.

April also showed continued use of carpet-bombing DDoS tactics by malicious actors to avoid detection, attempting to overwhelm lower-capacity mitigation solutions and make mitigation harder. In April 2024, Vercara noted that carpet bombing attacks accounted for 65.44% of all observed attacks, a 30% increase compared to March 2024.
